Eric Seeley 1951 -2021– a Retrospective Exhibition at Eagle Gallery
Thursday 23 June 2022
Paintings and prints by Eric Seeley, who was a well known and respected Bedfordshire artist, are to be shown at the Eagle Gallery in Bedford, in memory of his life and work.
Eric was born and grew up in Bedfordshire and although he moved away to study art at Kingston Polytechnic and then the Royal Academy Schools, he returned to live and work in Bedfordshire until 2015, when he moved to Somerset.
He was totally committed to his work as an artist and painted almost every day throughout his life, producing work which was exhibited and sold widely, at numerous galleries. His paintings were selected and hung many times at the RA Summer Exhibition. Collectors, locally, nationally and from overseas, purchased his paintings and prints. He also won a number of prestigious awards, prizes and competitions.
Eric painted mostly in oils, although he also used watercolour and liked to experiment with various other media and techniques. As well as being a talented painter he was a very accomplished printmaker, working in dry-point, monotype and lino-print. His subjects included figures, landscape, seascape and still life. Eric had the ability to work in a number of styles, often highly figurative, but also very imaginative, often with an almost dream-like, lyrical, mysterious quality. This exhibition aims to show a representative sample of his work, over a number of years.
As a Founder Member of the Eagle Gallery, Eric lent his enthusiasm, energy and expertise to help create and run the gallery and continued to be a member and exhibit his work there until moving to Somerset in 2015, where he died in 2021.
