BID "reins" supreme at Xmas
A herd of real reindeer helped to declare Bedford’s Christmas open on 29 November. Santa, his sleigh and deer gathered in Harpur Square to meet Lucy Young and Anson Sabichan, both aged five, who won a lovebedford.co.uk colouring competition. Hundreds then took part in procession to the riverside Christmas Light switching on ceremony. Read more

Make a child smile this Christmas...
The Christian charity Samaritan's Purse have been sending gift-filled shoeboxes to disadvantaged children around the world since 1990, bringing joy into the lives of over 80 million children.
Last year children and adults alike wrapped and packed around 1.12 million shoeboxes full of gifts and goodies, which were then sent to disadvantaged children across Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
If you would like to send a shoebox this year, pop in to angels and urchins, 45 St Cuthbert’s Street in Bedford. They will give you a leaflet which explains exactly how the scheme works, and once you have filled your shoebox, you can simply drop it back at the shop. All shoeboxes need to be in by November 18th, so get wrapping!

Love Bedford are bringing in Cairngorn reindeer to the town centre which are going to be on show in Harpur Square from 4pm on the 29th November 2011. At 6pm the reindeer will take Father Christmas and Love Bedford prizewinners (children) to the VIP platform on the Embankment where they will get a premium spot to watch the Christmas Light Switch on and the firework display.
