Don Gillett, member of BedfordBID and owner of the Art Centre & Gallery in Howard Street, Bedford, is keen to promote business in the town. Staging the launch of the new website at the Art Centre gave people the opportunity to find out more about Bedford's creative scene in an exciting art space.
The Art Centre combines art and craft departments with a picture gallery, exhibiting works of nationally renowned contemporary artists. It also gives local and national artists the opportunity to showcase art in a variety of forms, from mixed media, to glass, ceramics and wood.
Don Gillett said: “The Art Centre in Bedford has an 80 year history of showcasing artistic talent and this new website widens that showcase to the internet and a world wide audience.”
Paul Vann (Economic Development Growth Manager, Bedford Borough Council), explained:
“The Creative Bedfordshire website offers opportunities to a broad range of creative people, from artists to architects and creative students leaving College or University, who are looking to promote themselves or work with others. Anything you can think of to do with the sector is possible with the website - including job vacancies, events, commissions and galleries.
“We are particularly interested in developing the whole of the creative sector - commercial as well as the pure arts side. We want to broaden the perception and reality of the creative sector in Bedford and Bedfordshire and the website will be key to that.”
Developing the website had been in the creative hands of Ian Henderson (Squadra) and Scott Jones (123 Internet Designs) who expect the website to take on a life of its own as more people populate the site with images and information.
Ian Henderson added:
“I see this exciting and novel website as the epicentre of creativity and creative businesses where people can have a real input into the creative life of the county. Bedfordshire is about to become bigger and bigger in the creative world.”
