Monday 31st January 2011
Chairman Ian Pryce made the announcement on Monday January 24th.
Ian is CEO of Bedford College, which is a large levy-paying member of BedfordBID, and actually provides thousands of customers to other businesses each week as staff and students pour over the Town Bridge to spend. In 2011 the College has again bought £50,000 worth of BedfordBID vouchers which will go directly into town centre tills.
“I believe the BedfordBID is a great thing for the town and as we were voted in for second term it proves most businesses think so too.
“In this second term all the great stuff like the Bluecaps, advertising, promotions, Indulge in Bedford and Be Beautiful in Bedford will stay. There is a great new Love Bedford campaign on www.lovebedford.co.uk
Left to Right Kevin Kavanagh, Vice Chair of BedfordBID with Peter Hills-Jones and Caryl Jones. The new appointments will complement the work of the frontline Bluecaps and the busy “behind the scenes” team of the organisation led by Chris Wood. Peter comes a background which has included being a Parliamentary researcher in economic affairs and Caryl was in a civilian role with Beds Police.
“Even more work will be done to promote the successful BedfordBID vouchers which have put £250,000 through local tills.
“We will continue to help increase visitor numbers to the town and drive down crime - for the benefit of levy-paying businesses and customers.
“The first BID was a pioneering project - the first in a market town in the UK - so we were learning as we went - there was no blueprint. We concentrated on the retail and restaurant sector and in getting rid of unsightly graffiti that is now a thing of the past in the BID area.
