Temperatures are dropping, nights are getting longer, it can only mean one thing. That’s right its time to light up Bedford town centre and Embankment for the annual Fire and Light Festival and Christmas light switch on.

This year’s event, which takes place on The Embankment tonight, will be kicked off at 7pm, with an official switch on by a mysterious man in red.

Alchemy Fireworks will be providing this year’s “Fire and Light” display. Alchemy were responsible for the fireworks at this years River Festival as well as organised displays at Thorpe Park and Leeds Castle. Refreshment vans will be on hand for anyone needing a bite to eat, while a range of children’s fun fair rides, located on The Embankment and St Paul’s Square, are set to add to the party atmosphere.

Bedford’s Christmas lights have been arranged along The Embankment and town centre areas. Last years favourites the blue balls will be illuminating shoppers along Silver Street. Elsewhere rows of glowing icicles will be spanning Midland Road providing an atmospheric backdrop to a packed programme of festive entertainment. Events lined up for the weeks preceding Christmas already include:

Church Square re-opening - Friday 12th December
Victorian Christmas Fair 12th - 14th December
Stilt walking reindeer
Ice rink
Charter, Gourmet and Home and Garden Markets
Antiques, Arts, Crafts and Collectors Fair

“We’ve got a whole range of special festive events organised in the run up to Christmas. Everything starts with the Festival of Fire and Light on the 20th November. So wrap up warm and join the party atmosphere as we light up The Embankment and Town Centre with our festive display.

The Fire and Light show is designed to be seen and enjoyed from the full length of the Embankment. Catering and a funfair will be available throughout the event.”
