"This is not an isolated case, we have interest from nationals like Tesco, Starbucks and some inquiries about the empty Woolworth's," said Executive Director Mo Aswat,
"In addition seven independent shops have signed up to, or have opened, in Bedford in recent weeks - including a bridal shop at Castle Quay, I Like Buggies in Harpur Street and the Jessica Brown clothing in Lime Street. Bedford College is moving its Brooks hair and beauty spa into the High Street in the New Year - so this all shows confidence in Bedford as business centre."
BedfordBID collects £500,000 a year from businesses in the town centre and reinvests it in projects which will attract customers and investors. Deputy Chair of the BedfordBID Kevin Kavanagh, who opened Frescoes in Mill Street after a career in national retail, says the commitment shown to the town by businesses by investing in the Business Improvement District (BID) is appealing to national and independent companies alike: "We are all working towards keeping Bedford buoyant."
