Bedford’s glass is more than half full, heard guests at the Beacon Business Breakfast at the Skyline Restaurant of Bedford College on June 10th.
The dualling of the A421 from Junction 13 was meaning business were turning towards Bedford instead of Milton Keynes - attracted by lower land and rental prices for warehouses and manufacturing plants, reported Simon Dunning from Bedford Borough Council’s Economic Development team. Paul emphasised the importance for businesses to keep detailed up to date business records.
He explained how HM Revenue & Customs were using new powers to review the business records of 200,000 SME businesses; and warned that fines of up to £3,000 can be levied for non-compliance.
Paul engaged the audience with anecdotal tales of how even simple errors could lead to an unexpected tax bill of more than £15,000. He also provided some top tips on recording keeping and best practices for businesses to help them avoid additional tax and penalties from the Taxman.”
