Five years in a row for Bedford Car Parks

Thursday 17th April 2011

Car parks in Bedford Borough have been named as some of the best in the country – for the fifth year in a row!

The Park Mark award recognises the measures Bedford Borough Council has put in place to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, helping to prevent crime as well as reducing the fear of crime in their parking facility.

The following six car parks have once again been awarded the Park Mark award:

• Melbourne Street
• Park and Ride car park at Elstow
• Lurke Street
• River Street
• Queen Street
• St Peters Street

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Local residents quite rightly expect us to look after our car parks as well as doing all we can to ensure they are as safe and secure as possible.

“Winning the Park Mark award five years in a row is recognition of the work that goes on throughout the year to provide a high quality service for the thousands of people who travel into Bedford town centre every year.”

Park Mark is an award sponsored by the Association of Chief Officers of Police, in conjunction with the British Parking Association. The aim is to encourage safe standards of car park operation and low crime levels.

Those car parks that are able to demonstrate they achieve high public safety standards and quality of service as well as very low incidences of crime are recognised with the Park Mark award, which has to be evidenced and re-assed annually by a designated Police assessor.
