A Levels up and away at Bedford College

A Level results at Bedford College were the best ever - with students winning places at Cambridge, getting the grades for medical school and heading off to the careers or universities of their choice.
 
A and B level passes were up 9% on last year showing an improvement in the QUALITY of the grades gained by students.
 
Jade Norman, aged 21, of Bedford got a Grade A in Government & Politics to add to two Grade As she got last year and is now off to Cambridge to study History. Jade’s achievement is made all the more amazing because she is a single mum with a five and two year old to cope with. “It has been 6 am starts and support from my mum that has made this possible - and the staff at Bedford College have been amazing, “ said Jade.
 
Hannah Fountain, aged 18, of Langford near Biggleswade, got 3 Grade As in Psychology, Law and Sociology and is now off to Birmingham University.
“I was at Samuel Whitbread school but wanted to try something different and my brother had been to Bedford College so I knew it was a good place to study.”
 
Ben Thompson, aged 21, of Bedford achieved 3 Grade As in Maths, Human Biology and Chemistry and hopes to go to Keele University at Newcastle. “I messed up at 17 with my studies at school so came to Bedford College for a second chance and now I am aiming for medical school,” said Ben.
  
Steve Nahar, who is 20 on August 15th got an early birthday present with great grades for someone who only came to the UK from India in December 2005. Steve got an A in Psychology and Bs in Chemistry and Human Biology and plans to take an Access Course to get him a place at university or medical school.
 
Jade Oresanya, aged 19, of Luton achieved Grade As in Law and Sociology and a B in Govt & Politics - she is off to Manchester University to study Law. “Bedford College is just beautiful. I had been at Barnfield College in Luton but Bedford had the courses I really wanted.”
 
Emma Page, 19, of Bedford says the extra support and adult approach to students allowed her to flourish and gain Grade As in Sociology and Communication Studies and a B in Business Studies. Now she is off to Nottingham to do Sociology.
 
Kelly Jeffrey, aged 18, of Luton, is off to Nottingham Trent after gaining a Grade A in English Literature and and Grade A AS in Govt & Politics. “This is my third year here as I did my GCSEs here - the staff have been really supportive and helped me tremendously,” said Kelly who combines study with working 14 hours a week at Luton & Dunstable Hospital.
 
Kyle Ashford, 18, of Brickhill, Bedford was delighted that his 3 ‘A Levels’ will set him on career towards accountancy. By contrast his friend Matthew Lazel, also 18, of Goldington, Bedford is off to take up an apprenticeship in outdoor recreation and leisure thanks to his 3 ‘A Levels’.
 
Mica Rosen, aged 18, of St Neots, gained a B in Sociology and Cs in Psychology and English Literature. “The College offers a good variety of teaching methods and staff are very approachable,” said Mica who is now off to Keele University.
 
Daniel Chilvers, aged 18 of Wymington, is delighted with his three A Levels - especially since he was not allowed to stay on the Sixth Form at his local upper school based on his GCSE results. He turned the tide at Bedford College and got three A Levels thanks to support of staff and is now thinking about going to Anglia Ruskin University
 
 
*The day was extra special for Advanced Practitioner Bridget Chadwick who despite being in the midst of chemotherapy treatment came into College to join the results day celebrations and see how her students had fared.
 
Head of Sixth Form Pauline Kendall said: “This is a special day in the lives of our students and we are delighted to report that as well as getting great grades, in a wide range of subjects from science to sociology, our students have achieved their ‘personal best’ performances. They are all individual to us, not just a series of statistics, and we are privileged to be able to help them develop into amazing adults who now have their whole future ahead of them.”
