You can now pick up a free BedfordBID Child:SAFE wristband from a Bedford Town Centre Bluecap during the school holidays. All you have to do is write your contact number in the box provided on the free wrist band, then attach to your childs wrist for added piece of mind!

If a missing child wearing one of our wristbands is found; shopkeepers, Police, Bluecaps and CCTV will all follow a very swift procedure and will call you on the contact number provided on the wristband immediately.

Behind the scenes of Bedford Town Centre is one of the largest co-ordinated Radiolink operations in the country, in which over 150 radio users including shop keepers, CCTV, the Police and BedfordBID Bluecaps are all in constant communication with one another each day in Bedford Town Centre.

Helpful Tips
If your child gets lost whilst in a shop, make sure your child knows not to leave the store. The child should seek out a till cashier for assistance.

If your child gets lost in the street, they should look for a Police Officer or a BedfordBID Bluecap. If neither of these are available they should enter the nearest shop and ask a member of staff for help.

If you split up with older children, you can use ‘Boots Corner’ as a point of reference or meeting point, as this area is always staffed by a BedfordBID Bluecap, Monday to Saturday from 10.30am to 5pm.

Please tell your child not to be afraid to tell someone that they are lost. The quicker a child comes for help, the quicker we can help reunite you. We much prefer looking for parents than looking for a missing child.

Please try not to tell a misbehaving child that they may end up in trouble with the Police as a way to curb their behaviour. This can actually make a child fearful of approaching them when they really do need help!

Make sure your child is wearing easily recognisable clothing so you can locate them easily. Should you ever need assistance finding somebody, Police or Bluecaps will ask you for the following information; the name of the missing person, their age, height, hair colour and identifiable clothing.
